Alexander Zarzycki
Romance for Violin & Piano, Op.16
Alexander Zarzycki (1834-1895) was born in the then Austrian city of Lemburg, known to the Poles as Lvov and now in the Ukraine as Lviv. He studied piano with a number of teachers, including Henri Reber in Paris and Carl Reinecke at the Leipzig Conservatory with whom he also studied composition. He pursued a career as a soloist and a teacher, eventually becoming director of the Warsaw Institute of Music. Most of his compositions were for piano although he also wrote a few works for violin and piano. The Romance, reflective and lyrical, dates from 1877.
