The Viennese Dance Series for Chamber Ensembles
Johann Strauss Jr.
Schatzwalzer from the Gypsy Baron, Op.418
For String Quartet or String Quintet
You have heard there is a chamber music version of this appealing set of waltzes from Strauss' famous opera the Gypsy Baron, but unfortunately, you do not have a harmonium...Anton Webern made an arrangement for string quartet, piano and harmonium. There are arrangements, but none for string quartet alone, which is how you would like to play it. Well, now you can, because Vincent Oddo, a senior editor for us, has made a fine arrangement which you will be sure to enjoy. (As there is no recording of string quartet alone, our soundbite is of Webern's arrangement. You will still get a good idea of what it is like for quartet alone as the harmonium and piano are of secondary importance)
Johann Strauss Jr. (1825-1899) needs no introduction. The Viennese Waltz King will forever remain famous as long as music is played.
