 String Trio

Pal Hermann (1902-1944) was born in Budapest. After leaving Hungary, he anglicized his name to Paul Hermann. He attended the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest where he studied cello with Adolf Schiffer and composition with Leo Weiner. He left before graduating to pursue a career as a touring soloist and was sometimes called the Hungarian Casals. Besides concertizing, he taught cello and composition first in Berlin, then later in Brussels and Paris. He was not a prolific composers and his string trio.

His String Trio dates from 1921-22, although some sources state it was actually composed while he was still at the Franz Liszt Academy. It is in one short movement and the style akin to neo-classicism in parts, tonal but pushing the boundaries of standard tonalities without lapsing into atonality.
