Karl Goepfart
Trio for 2 Violins and Viola in G Major, Op.73
Karl Goepfart (1859-1942) after initial studies with his father became a student of Franz Liszt in Weimar. He enjoyed a career as a concert pianist as well as a conductor both in Europe and the United States. He wrote operas, symphonies as well as several chamber music works.
The Trio in G Major, Op.73 dates from 1897 and is the first of a series of three he was to compose for different instrumental combinations. In three movements, it begins with a lively Allegro. The middle movement is a traditional, Menuetto, with a nicely contrasting Trio con delicatezza. The finale is an exciting Presto.
